In 2012, in Australia, will build the first solar power tower on the planet.

The process makes use of convection that occurs with the movement of warm air masses.

The sun heats the air in the immediate area to the ground, the air is directed toward the base of the tower which leads the air in one direction, upwards, which is the address where the hot air outlet speed. This hot air at the edge of the tower, set in motion large turbines are generating electricity.

It is almost the same process that is generated in hydroelectric power stations, but instead of using the mass movement of water, uses the motion of the air mass and instead of using the phenomenon of gravity to generate the movement, use the phenomenon of convection.

The graphic explains the process quite well.
